Too much focus on one area of life can lead to neglect in others. Achieving a balance in life is a worthwhile goal. It will help you in all aspects of life and help attract what you want into it. All too often, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the demands of daily life. Here’s a guide to help you get and maintain life balance.
- Define your priorities
You should have something like this with things to attract in your life, but this should include your career, family, health, hobbies, your bucket list, and anything else you want in your life. Once you have those, you should put them in order of importance to you so you can allocate your time and energy accordingly.
- Create a schedule or to-do list
Creating a schedule or list can help you stay on top of everything. Once you have your priorities sorted out, you can add other activities you want to do. Be sure to fill out the remaining or leftover time for relaxing, self-care, and things you look forward to doing. It’s important to make this a lifestyle and avoid burning out.
- Learn to say “no”
If your priorities are clear, and you’re making a schedule, you can then weigh other people and unplanned things into your schedule. While you should remain flexible, you should also be prepared to say “no” when you have a larger priority. Focusing on what’s important should allow you to see clearly when you should focus on your schedule or help someone else.
- Practice self-care
Health is something people take for granted until they don’t have it. Keeping on top of your health is important, something that will pay off quite often. It’s not something people usually concentrate on until they start to lose it. A healthy body doesn’t appear overnight but start eating better, being active for a half hour to an hour each day. Doing your preferred hobbies should be weighed on delaying your gratification or reaching your goals. It’s best to treat yourself like you would a preferred guest.
- Seek support
It’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Reach out to friends, family, neighbors, or communities you’re a part of. If you’re not part of a community that has similar interests, I recommend finding one. You can make friends, connect with people and possibly get some support. Even when it comes to managing a project or a business, your model should not look like a tree of “you” stamped on everything. A good motto I heard often was “delegate or die”, and “No one does it all by themselves.”
- Live in the moment
Mindfulness is the practice of being present and aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. Incorporating mindfulness into your daily routine can help you stay grounded and reduce stress. Simple practices like deep breathing, mindful walking, or a daily gratitude journal can make a big difference. While the destination is very important, it’s also more important to enjoy the journey on the way there.
- Embrace imperfection
Japan has an interesting tradition (Kintsugi) where they will break pottery and then glue it back together using gold-dusted epoxy. The results are a stunning part piece that is very unique. Like that, life balance and attracting things into your life will be an ongoing process. Don’t worry too much about mistakes and setbacks, the more important thing to do is be grateful for what you have and the small success you have moving forward. Each step forward is a success that you should celebrate, joy in that will bring more to come.
- Celebrate Success
While on that subject, people will often make a point to celebrate big moments, like a big promotion, or buying a new house. But the little things should be celebrated too. Getting inspiration for that great new idea! Meeting awesome new people, anything that’s a step toward your goal, should be celebrated.
When you focus on the positive, you get more positive. Creating a life balance will greatly shape your life like an architect. The fine details that make life enjoyable and exciting can be will be the motivation to keep on the course. It will act as that compass that doesn’t point north but to what you want.
