People often reflect their environment, or put another way, people adapt to their circumstances. For instance, people who are more attractive usually have a positive outlook socially. They are treated better and generally are a lot more forward and trusting. I’ve done a lot of door-to-door stuff in my youth, and I hadn’t realized this for a while. But I had become accustomed to a simple reaction. Those that opened their doors straight away to a stranger were much more attractive. The people who peeked through a curtain or poked around to see who the stranger was, staggeringly not attractive. I hadn’t consciously come to this conclusion myself, but it was a reaction from years of experience.

You can’t change your genes, but you can change how you see yourself. I had friends who were convinced that the shape of your face would project what you were thinking. They seemed to guess what subject I was thinking about with more success than failures. Well, this outside appearance from our thinking does take its toll after a while. (There are security specialists who can tell what field of work you’re into just based on your looks and the way you carry yourself!)

“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.
A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams, and you will always look lovely.”

-Roald Dahl

An outward projection of your internal thoughts. This is the heart of attraction. So begs the question, how do we clean our thoughts?

A simple answer: Clean your living space.

Buddhist monks can often be hard taskmasters when it comes to chores and discipline. Because when you clean your living space, you clean your soul. The simple act of cleaning can help you maintain health, keep you organized, happy, and keep on top of things.

When you bring something new home, you often take on more responsibility in your life. More so when that’s a living creature/pet. When you show gratitude for your things, they seem to work longer and better, live healthier. This also shows that you care about your living space and possessions.

As you work on your living space and organize it, your thoughts will become more clear. You may sense a feeling of calm that wasn’t there before. You may find yourself with more inspiration. Likewise, you will find more confidence in yourself than you did before. Confidence is an attractive trait all humans appreciate. A positive environment fosters a positive outlook and then a positive mind. Positive reinforces positive.

A positive person doesn’t hide but faces the world with optimism, for the world returns that attitude with optimism. Someone who is happy will have a bright countenance. People will say, “they light up the room”, or “they’re so full of life”, to those that are happy. You may have a harder time seeing it as you see your self every day, but others will take notice. More importantly, you will feel it.

This in turn will inspire others. If you enjoy this, share this. Sharing may be someone’s first step toward hope.
